It was exactly 1 year ago that my wife, girls, and I took a trip to the land down under. My wife had purchased the tickets on an impulse because her mom and step dad were going and it would be a great opportunity to wish her grandfather a happy 70th in person.
Oh, have I ever told you that her grandfather is a well known guitar player that was featured on a lot of the Jackson 5 hits? No????? Well check him out here.
Back to the trip... It was amazing!!! I remember feeling like I was really living for the first time since my first daughter was born. I had my family with me, was unplugged from most technology, and free to wake up to enjoy nature and the world that is so magnificent if you just stop to look at it. AHHHHHH... it was so dang nice!
That trip also signified another big change for me. It was the first family outing that I decided to shoot ALL FILM. I had recently purchased a Contax 645, which is a medium format film camera. (Learn more here if you'd like) and I also purchased a bunch of color film and decided to take the plunge. I didn't allow myself to use the Digital camera which was great because it forced me to learn how to position myself so my subjects were in the best possible light. I'll admit, it was nerve racking not knowing if my pictures were good, if the exposures were right, or even if there was damage during transport. Once home, I had another huge obstacle to overcome which was to pony up some cash ( I hate spending money ) to get the pictures developed at a lab that I knew did great work. So once I got the pictures back, about a month had passed since we returned and my focus was on getting back into the swing of things and trying to find another job since the one I had was not at all enjoyable! All in all, I never found the time to pull together the pictures from our trip until now.
Now I'm back in Australia for another epic vacation. This time, we're here for 3 weeks and it's been amazing so far!! I'm taking the time to do the things that bring me the most joy such as photography, running on the beach during the sunrise, eating peanut butter and honey toast, and hanging with my family. I've FINALLY been able to put together the series of pictures that I feel captures the trip we took last year and shows all the special moments. This year, I promise to not only get my film developed much faster, but to also blog and print them up within the first 2 months upon my return. Fingers crossed :-)

All shots taken with either my Contax 645, 85mm Zeiss or Pentax, 50mm 1.8 using Fuji Pro400h or Ilford XP2 400 film. I did also use 1 roll of 30 year old, expired, Kodak film.

These are just absolutely amazing!!! Your wife and kids are just stunning and these really pulled at my heart strings... great work!
How fun to see last year's pictures as this year's vacation is in progress! Amazing how the girls have changed in a short year. The days are long but the years are short.
Thank you both for sharing! I'm definitely nervous about this years as well but not as much. There should be some goodies:)
These are beautiful.. each one of them. The one of your daughter with the barbie behind her back was one of my faves. I sincerely hope you make a beautiful album of your trip for the kids to flip through. :)
